Proposed Community Local Law 2024

The Local Government Act 2020 provides the mechanism for Council to make local laws which remain in effect for a period of ten years, unless revoked sooner by Council. Council is proposing to make Community Local Law 2024 to replace the current Community Local Law 2016.

Notice is hereby given pursuant to the provisions of Section 73 of the Local Government Act 2020 that at its meeting on 5 June 2024, Baw Baw Shire Council resolved to release the proposed Community Local Law 2024 for public submissions.

The objectives of this Local Law are to provide for:

(a) the peace, order and good government of the municipal district;

(b) a safe and healthy environment so that the community within the municipal district can enjoy a quality of life that meets its general expectations;

(c) fair access and use of Council and community assets and prescribe measures to protect those assets;

(d) the prevention and suppression of nuisances which may adversely affect the enjoyment of life within the municipal district or the health, safety, and welfare of persons within the municipal district;

(e) the prohibition, regulation, and control of activities which may be dangerous or unsafe or detrimental to a person's health, the amenity of the municipal district, or the environment; and

(f) prescribed requirements for the administration and enforcement of the Local Law.

Any person who wishes to make a submission to the proposed local law must lodge the submission in writing addressed to Community Safety, Baw Baw Shire Council, PO Box 304, Warragul Vic 3820, or online via Baw Baw Connect

Submissions will be received until 5 July 2024. Please note, that unless a submitter advises Council to the contrary, the submission will be made available to the public.

Council, in accordance with Section 73 of the Local Government Act 2020, will consider all written submissions received within the prescribed time.
