The planning department is committed to providing the following pre-application services to assist with obtaining planning advice about your proposal and lodging a satisfactory planning permit application with council.

Statutory Planning Meeting Request

For matters relating to Planning Scheme Amendments or Re-Zoning of land, please contact Strategic Planning on strategic.planning@bawbawshire.vic.gov.au

Matters relating to the development of 10 or more lots OR within either the Urban Growth Zone (UGZ) or PSP, please contact Priority Development on development@bawbawshire.vic.gov.au


This free service offers:

  • Scheduled appointment for 45 minutes with a planning officer
  • Verbal advice about your proposal including whether a planning permit is required and the type of information that must accompany an application
  • Opportunity to make changes to an application in line with Council’s requirements before lodgement
  • Formal registration process on Councils records to streamline your planning permit application once submitted based on the advice provided

Once you have completed your booking a confirmation email will be sent including details about the meeting and a link to submit the following information about the proposal to ensure that you receive quality advice:

  • Written summary about the proposal/enquiry
  • Proposed development plans
  • Current Certificate of Title, Plan of Subdivision and any restrictions that may be registered on the Title (i.e. Covenant/Section 173 Agreement). The Title can be obtained from landata.vic.gov.au 

IMPORTANT NOTE: To ensure the planner is able to provide advice on your proposal and have adequate time to review the proposal, please provide preliminary plans and documents 72 hours (48 hours max) prior to the meeting otherwise the meeting may be cancelled.

Written Advice Request

This paid service offers:

  • Written planning advice about your proposal including whether a planning permit is required
  • Opportunity to make changes to an application in line with Council’s requirements before lodgement
  • Formal registration process on Councils records to streamline your planning permit application once submitted based on the advice provided
  • Written planning advice generally received within 10 business days

Verbal Advice Request

This free service offers:

Verbal planning advice generally provided within 2 business days
