Baw Baw Heritage Study
The Baw Baw Heritage Study is a shire-wide study that was undertaken to identify places and things that have Heritage value, and to review the 1991 City of Warragul Heritage Study.
Purpose of the Study
There was not a whole of Shire heritage report and in a growing community it is important to consider retaining heritage places and spaces as part of our cultural identity.
Heritage Overlays
The Heritage Overlay is a control in the Baw Baw Planning Scheme that assists with the preservation of heritage places.
We recommend you email the Planning Department or call 5624 2411 to determine if a planning permit is required for works on a heritage listed place.
Heritage Places may include:
- Places that are a key part of the Shire’s history, for example: industry, farming, commerce, education, community, transport and housing.
- Places that are significant for scientific, botanical, natural, architectural or other value.
- Trees, avenues of trees, bridges, chimneys, houses, streetscapes, buildings, shops, hotels, halls, schools, gardens, memorials.
