Amendment C142 - The Gables Heritage Overlay
What does the amendment do?
The amendment proposes to:
- Apply a Heritage Overlay on a place identified as being historically and aesthetically significant;
- Insert the associated Statement of Significance into the planning scheme as an incorporated document.
The subject land is part of a 10-acre property at 101 Lardner Rd, Drouin; it contains curtilage of an original house and three mature trees in its vicinity.

The land is in the Urban Growth Zone – currently agricultural land zoned for future residential development.
The Gables is arguably one of the most substantial and complex design of the Federation/Edwardian period buildings within the Shire.

Panel Hearing
The amendment has been considered by an independent Planning Panel.
The purpose of the Panel Hearing was for people to speak to their written submission and to hear from the Planning Authority.
The Main Hearing was held via video conference on 27 and 28 July 2021.
The Panel has provided its recommendation in the Panel Report that was received on 6 August 2021. You can download the Panel Report here.(PDF, 798KB)
Council will consider the Panel recommendations and form a position (adopt, adopt with changes or abandon) at an upcoming Council meeting – date to be confirmed.
