Trafalgar Primary School
At Trafalgar Primary School we believe in fostering each childs desire to learn as we develop creative thinkers, problem solvers, collaborative team members and independent and confident learners who are equipped for future success. Our community values of Confidence, Caring, Do your Best, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility are reflected in our daily practice. We also follow the school wide expectations of behaviour which are Be a Learner, Be Respectful and Be Safe.
Trafalgar Primary School is a large rural school that has 370 students enrolled for 2015, drawing students from the Trafalgar area and from surrounding towns. Our physical environment is an open planned classroom structure with facilities supporting our endeavours to construct collaborative and cooperative learning opportunities for our students. In 2015 there are 17 classrooms operating and specialist programs including: Media (P-6), Music (P-6), Movement (P-6) and Indonesian (P-6). Our Musical centre is exemplary and includes a sound proof recording studio and green screen facility. A multi purpose hall and art room reinforces our belief that the physical environment is a significant element in stimulating learning. The expansion of our school grounds will ensure that student gardens and sustainability practices will be incorporated into our learning programs in the future.
Our students enjoy a wide variety of extra curricula activities including: Instrumental Music Program, Lunchtime activities and Junior Rotary. We have an Inclusion Support Program (ISP) in place to expand our learning in relation to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and all staff are expected to ensure all classes and behaviours are inclusive of all needs, backgrounds and disabilities. We aim to formulate a picture of the whole child, taking into account their background, social, emotional and educational achievements. Planning in teams to meet the needs of the child to bring them forward to the next level of their development using collaborative planning practices and assessment measures, including a focus on formative assessment and (Hatties) visible learning practices. We follow the restorative practices model of dealing with student conflict and put in a process to repair behaviours as well as firm and fair consequences for inappropriate behaviour as per our School Wide Positive Behaviour Program.
Parents are actively involved in our school with very active School Council and Parents and Friends Committee. Parents and volunteers regularly assist in our classrooms, on excursions and camps. Our school community have high expectations of our staff, students and parents and we work together to ensure that students who attend our primary school receive the best experiences that we can offer.
