Exciting redevelopments at Rollo Street in Yarragon get underway!

Published on 18 November 2024

The highly anticipated rejuvenation of Yarragon’s Rollo Street Park is now underway with contractors breaking ground at the site yesterday.

Rollo Street Park will undergo a $1.77 million redevelopment, following a strong desire from the local community for this area to be repurposed.

In October 2019, Council purchased the site, which was formerly the Yarragon Primary School, to ensure it could be retained as a community asset and used as public open space in the future. A master plan was created for the site with significant community feedback sought throughout its redevelopment.

In September this year, Sustainable Landscaping Pty Ltd was awarded the contract to undertake the works, which are expected to be finished by mid 2025.

Baw Baw Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Mark Dupe said this project had seen Council work very closely with the community and he looked forward to seeing this site redeveloped into a community place of pride.

“Following strong feedback from the local community, Council proceeded with purchasing this site and today marks a very exciting milestone in the journey as we see works kick off,” he said.

Key features of the upgrades will include:

  • The planting of more than 60 trees

  • Hanns Lane will be resealed with diagonal parking

  • A walking path

  • Seating

  • A drinking fountain

  • Bike racks

  • Rain gardens

  • Improved drainage, and

  • New bollards and fencing.

These upgrades are thanks to joint funding, including a $235,500 contribution from Council as well as $1.53 million from the State Government through its Growing Suburbs Fund.
