The Tanjil Valley Landcare group are once again holding for the 3rd year running, a fabulous FREE Community Festival celebrating our natural environment. With family friendly activities many of which include interactive, hands-on nature based play.
Aimed at connecting our kids, and our community to nature, the festival coincides with Nature Play Week which is championed throughout Victoria by the Kids in Nature Network.
There will be:
Cubby house building and storytelling using natural materials, with sticks and leaves and branches, kids get creative and even decorate their cubbies with artwork. There will also be other creative activities for big and little people including face painting, small canvas painting facilitated by local art teacher, Jo Draisma. Have a go at spinning wool with local artisan, Marg Robertson and see her knitted creations using local fleece.
This year features even more visits by our unique wildlife with festival newcomers, Mumsupials and festival favourites, Aussie Wildlife Display and Bug Blitz bringing their fuzzy, furry, scaley friends along so we can all touch, feel and learn about our native wildlife. Be sure to join one of their interactive demonstrations, their storytelling is always educational and captivating.
Wildlife Rescue and Protection Inc and the Travelling Vet have been invited to talk to you about how they care for injured wildlife and what to do if you come across one that is hurt.
There are also Peppermint Ridge Farm bush food and Habitat Creations native plant nurseries, Latrobe Valley Beekeeper, Baw Baw Sustainability Network, Gippsland Climate Change Network with displays for parents and adults to learn about the transition to more renewable energies and how to make your home more energy efficient. Including Traralgon Toyota Electric Vehicle display.
Local schools and community groups are also involved on the day, making this event a real community focused family day out. Many previous attendees have enthused over a FREE family outing which kept the kids engaged all day.
All day Live music from a number of groovy bands including, Stuart ‘Nico’ Nicolson, Curly and the Fringe, Saxation and wandering minstrel, Norm Cotterall.
Delicious food from the Willow Grove Lions Club, The Naked Spud, the Hill End Community group and Dream Organic Coffee Van as well as locally grown, organic vegetables and seedlings from Eden Hill Farm.
The festival is proudly run by a small group of Tanjil Valley Landcare volunteers. Our aim for the festival is to produce as little rubbish as possible, so we encourage people to bring their own water bottles, keep-cups and picnic equipment.
With over 40 stalls, there is something to suit everyone, so we invite you to come along for a fun and free community event.
Raffle prizes from Lance at Wood Waste Recycling – a trailer load of garden mulch, locally donated trailer of firewood, and a gorgeous hamper of local produce will be on offer …and is the groups main fundraiser for the event.
A big thank you to our major sponsors, The Victorian Government through the Victorian Landcare Grants program.
