Baw Baw Shire Council has redeveloped the existing sporting pavilion which brings the state of the art facility in-line with current sporting code requirements. The completed improvement works include, female friendly player and official changerooms, club office/administration area, storage, first aid room, accessible public/spectator toilets, cleaners' room, pitch lighting upgrade, and carpark improvement works.

Official Opening

The Baxter Park Pavilion was officially opened on Sunday 18 August 2024 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Early site works

Pavilion early site works

Prior to the pavilion refurbishment work, some early site works will take place to realign some sections of existing sewer and drainage lines to enable the extension and refurbishment of the pavilion.

The contract for the redevelopment and expansion works to upgrade the pavilion at Warragul's Baxter Park was awarded to local construction company, James G Morrison Building Contractors.

February 2023

In the lead up to the pavilion construction beginning, works to realign drainage and sewer pipes are currently underway at the site. With the contract now awarded, the second stage of upgrade works to the pavilion will begin.

May 2023

Demolition works inside the existing pavilion are well underway, clearing space for refurbishment works to begin.

June 2023

Internal demolition works are complete and framing for the refurbishment and extension is progressing well.

July 2023

Framing of the refurbishment and extension are complete, with roofing also complete for the extension. Plaster will soon arrive on site.

October 2023

Plaster, electrical and plumbing work is complete inside the pavilion and wet area flooring and tiling is underway. Cabinetry install has begun throughout the facility and new LED field lighting has been installed surrounding the soccer pitch.

February 2024

Practical completion has been reached at the pavilion, which has been handed back to the club for use. Once the car park component of the project is complete, an official opening celebration will be held.

Timeline

Pavilion Early Site Works:

  •  Works start Monday 6 February 2023 and will run for 3 to 6 weeks.

Pavilion refurbishment, lighting, and car park improvements:

  • Works to commence on site in late March 2023 and will run for a 12-month period to March 2024.

Project cost & funding

Valued at $2,970,054, this project is being delivered by Baw Baw Shire in partnership with the Australian and Victorian Governments.

Funding breakdown:

$1,970,054 - Phase 3 of the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI Program). This funding is assigned to the pavilion upgrade, pitch lighting upgrade and carpark improvements.

$1,000,000 - Victorian Government’s 2022 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund – Female Friendly Facilities stream. This funding is assigned to the pavilion upgrade component of the project only.
