Community Grants Review

Following a review of the Community Grants Program, which began in November 2022 and was completed in May 2023, we are excited to bring you the new Community Grants Program!

Council partnered with Projectura to complete a comprehensive review of the Community Grants program in which extensive internal and external consultation occurred, in conjunction with benchmarking with other similar programs.

The review was completed over three stages, the first involving wide community engagement through a survey and interviews with key stakeholders

Final public consultation was completed on the revised Community Grant Policy before it was presented to Council for consideration.

As a result, the Community Grants program now sits under a new stand-alone Community Grants Policy(PDF, 108KB) which was endorsed by Baw Baw Shire Council on 14 June 2023, and now has new, comprehensive set of Community Grants Guidelines(PDF, 8MB) to support it.

Existing grant categories were also evaluated as a part of the review and have been stream-lined into the following two categories; Minor Capital Works, and Community Projects.

The Minor Capital Work stream provides funding for projects such as netting behind goal posts, goal post installation, fencing, lighting upgrades, playing surface upgrades, kitchen upgrades, electronic scoreboards, painting a hall, and public seating.

The Community Projects stream funds events, programs, environmental projects, or equipment purchases.

These changes aim to create an improved, more efficient, and transparent program which better meets the needs of our community.

The new program features:

  • Easy to use single application forms tailored to the application
  • Updated policy with greater clarity around what can and cannot be funded
  • Easy to read guidelines to support applicants through the process and understand timelines, eligibility and assessment criteria
  • Opportunity for auspicing arrangements
